Salam Yousry’s solo exhibition, Voyeur, comprises works shown for the first time in Cairo. Drawing primarily on his daily experiences of the two megacities of Cairo and Alexandria, the artist began working on this series four years ago.
Inspired by an acute sense of observation, Salam skillfully employs his sketching, painting, and mixed media techniques to portray people’s complex and dynamic interactions and movements in the social spaces of bars, restaurants, cafes, and homes. For instance, in his painting, While I Was Asleep, he depicts an emotional domestic scene in which he reflects on his personal breakup with his partner.
A multimedia artist, Salam makes use of his work with performance workshops to ponder (or: reflect on) the performative interactions of the human body, capturing how it deconstructs itself in the process of its bodily movements.

استلهم الفنان هذه السلسلة، التي بدأ العمل عليها قبل أربع سنوات، بشكل أساسي من تجاربه ومشاهداته اليومية في المدينتين الكبيرتين: القاهرة والإسكندرية.
مدفوعاً بحس دقيق للمراقبة، يوظف سلام بمهارة تقنياته في الرسم (الاسكتش)، والتصوير، والوسائط المتعددة ، لتصوير تفاعلات البشر المعقدة والديناميكية وحركاتهم داخل الفضاءات الاجتماعية؛ من حانات ومطاعم ومقاهٍ، وصولاً إلى المنازل.
على سبيل المثال، في لوحته "بينما كنت نائماً" (While I was Asleep)، يصور الفنان مشهداً منزلياً مشحوناً بالعاطفة، يتأمل فيه تجربة انفصاله عن شريكته.
وكفنان متعدد الوسائط، يستفيد سلام من خبرته في ورش فن الأداء للتأمل في التفاعلات الأدائية للجسد البشري، راصداً كيف يتفكك الجسد ويعيد تشكيل ذاته عبر حركاته المستمرة.
